What I See (Mostly Thru My BlackBerry)

Into The Desert

From my trip in early January 2012 to Doha, Qatar. Was fortunate enough to be invited by some dear friends (Qatari) to go into the middle of the desert and spending some time in their tents. The people of Qatar love to rent some plots of land and put up their tents in the desert during the cool months (October to March). Over the weekends, they would get into their SUVs/4x4s and spend the weekends with friends and families in their tents.

I was honored as not many people get the privileged to be invited into the private dwellings of Arabs/Qatari. These are usually reserved for very close friends and families. And for that, I’ll treasure these moments and their beautiful friendship.

The tents (6 of them) are very spacious and each of them serves a specific purpose; sleeping, lounging, kitchen, servants quarters, etc. And they come with running water stored in large tanks.

It was a fun and fabulous time, just sitting and talking, and driving up and down those sand dunes. What a life! To my dear Qatari friends, thank you for your garcious hospitality and your kind frienship, you are indeed my brothers. Jazakallah khair.

It is indeed! It took us about 15mins to climb on top of the dunes, and trust me, it was very difficult walking in soft sands.

I’m intrigued by the notion that people have to rent plots of desert. You somehow just imagine that the desert is just open to everyone. How do they possibly map it:) Lovely shots.

It is open to everyone but only if you want to put up tents that you need to rent. Perhaps, it’s their way of ensuring control and accountability. Plus, you get to choose your own prime spot. Mind you, at the peak of the season, there will be thousands of SUVs/4x4s crossing the desert to their tents. Btw, thanks for taking up the time and commenting, much obliged
